Rare .56-50 Spencer round, for the M1865 Spencer Carbine.

Headstamp is “S.A.W.”, for Sage Ammunition Works, Middletown, CT.

The designation “.56-50” is somewhat misleading, since it’s not a .56 cal like the earlier .56-56 Spencer. Only the second number indicates the caliber, in this case .50”.

Nice, non-dug condition.
